For Elementary NEW Teachers
For Secondary NEW Teachers
New Teacher Academy
Sulphur Springs ISD provides a team approach in working with the new teacher, campus mentor, campus leadership, and curriculum department to provide support as teachers transition into their role in the district. The New Teacher Academy includes three components:
- New Teacher Orientation
- Mentoring
- New Teacher Professional Development
New Teacher Orientation
The orientation program provides teachers with an introduction to district philosophies, practices, and important information to help transition smoothly into the district. New Teacher Orientation also includes ample time on campus in which teachers will meet their mentors and become oriented with their campus.
Mentoring
All new to district teachers will be assigned a mentor. This assignment will be made by the campus principal. Beginning teachers with 0-2 years of experience will be assigned a mentor for their first two years with the district. Veteran teachers who are new to the district may receive a mentor during their second year with the district based on need or by request.
New Teacher Professional Development Opportunities
Throughout the year, new teachers will participate in training opportunities that are targeted to their teaching assignment. Kindergarten-5th grade new teachers will attend New Teacher-Elementary trainings while Grades 6-12 New Teachers will attend Secondary New Teacher trainings. Each PD session opportunity and activity will target direct information to what is imperative for new teachers as they progress through their learning.
