In May 2023, the Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Trustees unanimously selected Dr. Deana Steeber as Superintendent of Schools. With nearly three decades of experience in education, Dr. Steeber is dedicated to fostering student success, empowering educators, and building strong connections within the community. Since joining SSISD, she has led the district to significant accomplishments, including the passage of a $157.15 million bond referendum, improvements in student outcomes, reductions in the annual budget, and enhanced pay and benefits for staff.

Dr. Steeber’s career reflects a deep commitment to supporting schools at all levels. Before joining Sulphur Springs ISD, she served as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction at Argyle ISD and held leadership roles in high-performing and fast-growth districts. Her background includes experience as a principal at high school, middle school, and elementary school campuses, giving her a well-rounded perspective on the unique needs of students and teachers across all grade levels. Dr. Steeber began her career as a high school science teacher, where she developed her passion for inspiring students and educators alike.

Dr. Steeber holds a Doctorate of Education from Texas A&M University–Commerce and both a master’s and a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She and her husband, Dr. Robert Steeber, have been married for 27 years. Robert, also a lifelong educator and former Texas superintendent, currently serves as Superintendent of McAlester Public Schools. Together, they are proud parents of two children, Hanna and Joe.

Dr. Steeber values the close-knit spirit of the Sulphur Springs community and takes pride in collaborating with parents, staff, and local leaders to ensure every student has the tools and opportunities to succeed. Whether engaging with families, supporting teachers, or attending local events, Dr. Steeber remains committed to serving as a partner in building a brighter future for all.
