What is an Athletic Trainer?
 


Certified Athletic Trainers

The NATA represents professionals who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses. Athletic Training is an allied health care profession. Certified athletic trainers hold at least a bachelor’s degree. They are required to pursue continuing education to retain their certification, which is awarded by the Board of Certification.
Athletic trainers provide value and a financial return investment to secondary schools, occupational employers, physicians, hospitals and clinics. Their emphasis helps Improve employee productivity and performance that can result in lower liability and health care insurance costs.
Athletic trainers are medical professionals who are experts in injury prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, particularly in the orthopedic and musculoskeletal disciplines.

Athletic Trainers are a key component of the health care team, which includes physicians and other allied health personnel. Because of their focus they lessen the burden on the public and private health care systems.


Licensed Athletic Trainer

To qualify to work in the State of Texas as an Athletic Trainer, one must pass the State License test.

Student Athletic Trainer

Student Athletic Trainers are an integral part of the team. They help set up for practice and games. They help give out water, tape, and apply first aid. They are the Certified Athletic Trainers extra hands. They are the first to arrive and the last to leave. They are instructed in the concepts of Athletic Training. They are taught about different injuries and how to treat them, about different ways to tape an injury, about the skeletal system, and the muscular system.
