SSISD continues to follow the mandates and direction of the State of Texas which includes the Texas Education Agency and our Governor's office. At this time, our Governor has cited "personal responsibility" as opposed to government mandates for our handling of COVID-19. In the spirit of this, SSISD will do the same.
To the right, you will find our Return to School Plan. It has some of the basic details about how we are dealing with COVID-19 going forward. As always as circumstances and/or the law change, so shall we.
Some major points from the plan include masks, vaccination, contact tracing, and missing school/work. Per our governor's mandate, masks are permissible at SSISD, but not required. Vaccinations are also not required. SSISD will not conduct contact tracing until/unless directed by TEA or the State. This means that SSISD will not "send home" students or staff who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
In line with our Governor's call for "personal responsibility," staff and students who have COVID-19 must stay home until released to return from their doctor. Those who are ill but without a diagnosis will have to exercise personal responsibility to determine if they should come to school. In general, if you are sick, you should not come to school. This rule is no different than we've ever had. If in doubt about an illness, we encourage you to stay home. Our campus nurses are available via phone to answer your questions and provide guidance if needed.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Jason Evans at (903) 885-0985.
We are closely monitoring the situation, and we will continue to communicate changes to you as they arise.
