Region 8 Science Fair Information

The Region 8 Science Fair will be held on January 28, 2027, at the Region 8 Education Service Center in Pittsburg, TX.

Students in grades 4–12 are eligible to participate. Because Sulphur Springs ISD is limited to four project entries per grade level, we will hold a Sulphur Springs ISD Science Fair on ____________ to select the students who will advance to the Region 8 Science Fair.

What Counts as a Science Fair Project

Projects must test a variable and answer a testable question — for example, "How does water temperature affect how quickly sugar dissolves?"

Demonstrations (such as a baking soda volcano) do not qualify as science fair projects, since they don't test a variable or answer a research question.

Project Categories

Students may choose a project from one of the following categories:

πŸ§ͺ Chemical/Physical
Explore physical and chemical changes in matter — motion, heat, light, sound, electricity, magnetism, simple machines, and more.
Note: Chemical projects using lab equipment may require adult supervision.

🌱 Behavioral/Biological
Explore living organisms or how humans and animals respond to their environment. Projects should include multiple subjects, and no animals may be harmed.
Note: Projects using students as test subjects require principal notification and parent permission.

πŸ’‘ Inventions
Design a unique, practical solution to a real-world problem. Projects should be marketable and demonstrate use of the Scientific Method.

πŸ“Œ Important: The school district will register your child for Region 8 based on the results of the local science fair — you do not need to register separately.
