Travis Elementary Guest Speakers

On Wed. October 31, Former NFL Player Herman Weaver visited our campus.  Mr. Weaver shared with all Travis students how he became an NFL player.  He worked hard, made good grade and stayed out of trouble in High School and was given a full scholarship to play for the University of Tenn.  He shared that after playing in College he was drafted into the NFL.  Hard work did not stop there, it actually just began.  While playing in the NFL he made lots of money but still had a void.  He made some bad choice and still did not find happiness.  He spoke very honestly and from the heart about how an accident of his daughters helped him to see that the way he was living was not the best way.  He handed his life over to God and turned over a new leaf.

Mr. Weaver’s story was full of hope, outlook and wisdom.  He shared with our students that “no one is born a winner, no one is born a loser but everyone is born a chooser!”  At the end of the program our students shared with him our school motto which he enjoyed very much.

On October 30, Mrs. Thornton and other Pilot Club members taught our students about safety.  They covered water safety, bike safety, seatbelt safety, and fire safety.  The lessons were taught while an entertaining puppet show was presented. After the puppet show, Andy the Ambulance made a guest appearance.  He talked about Halloween Trick or Treating Safety and stranger danger.  A great time was had by all.
