Douglas School serves all fifth grade students. Each student is assigned to a team for the school year. The fifth grade curriculum includes reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health, technology, physical education, and fine arts. Douglas also offers ACE G/T and strings. The ESL program includes small group instruction aligned with class objectives; the students are monitored and the lessons are reinforced in the classroom. Special education services include a self-contained class, resource and content mastery. According to the student's needs addressed in the IEP, inclusion is part of the daily program, The school nurse is now on campus five days a week. The counselor is on campus three days per week. Homework is given Monday - Thursday. Please monitor your child's school work and sign your child's take-home folder daily. Dismissal Bell - 3:05 Breakfast is served from 7:30 - 7:50 School buses leave Douglas at 3:00. All other students are dismissed at 3:05. Lunch - $1.75; reduced - $0.40; adult - $2.50 Snacks may be purchased for an afternoon snack break. Bottled water may also be purchased. Car pick - up: Teachers will be with the students on the sidewalk on Calvert Street; Freeman Street is for buses only. For your child's safety, we will not let your child go home a different way than you have previously arranged unless you notify us. Please let us know by writing a note or calling the office if you want to make special arrangments for your child to be picked up or if there is a change in bus transportation.
